Instructors

This second Youth Camp will have Headliner Instructors in Brendan Bottcher, Karsten Sturmay and his sister, Selena Sturmay. These curlers, although quite young, represent the best of Alberta Curling in recent years competing and winning on the National and International levels.

In addition to Brendan, Karsten and Selena, we will have a great support group of additional competitive World Curling Tour players who possess a combination of competitive play and instructional experience such as Colin Hodgson. This will allow for a very high instructor to student ratio of 1 to 5 or 6 for on ice instruction.

Camp Dates:
July 29 to August 2, 2019

Attendees at this camp are asked to arrive the afternoon or evening of July 28.

Registration Fee
Due to the high fixed costs associated with operating this summer camp, registration fees will be based on a sliding scale. The higher the number of registrations, the lower the cost will be to the participant:

  • $1,100 per participant based on 64 to 80 registrants
  • $950 per participant based on 81 to 96 registrants
  • $825 per participant based on 97 to 108 registrants
  • Coach or Translator or Team Administrator – $250 per person
    • Coaches, translators or any team administrators are invited to register to obtain the benefit of the training.
  • A deposit of $250 per person will be requested upon registration. The balance will be invoiced approximately one month in advance of the camp and will be based on the number enrolled in the selected camp. Each of the proposed camps will have a minimum enrolment requirement for the camp to proceed. Your deposit will be refunded in full should the camp not proceed.

Accommodation and meals
  • Attendees will be able to obtain accommodation and meals at the dormitories (Ravine Complex) at the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta located just 950 meters from the Camrose Recreation centre that houses the Curling Facility – Rose City Curling Club.
  • Dormitory rooms are available for single and double occupancy, and meals include 3 full meals per day with choices:
    • $80 per day for single occupancy including meals
    • $75 per person per day for double occupancy including meals
  • Attendees are also able to make their own arrangements for accommodations and meals. There are a number of hotels and restaurants in the City of Camrose but please be advised that an annual high profile music festival takes place in Camrose starting August 1 and alternate accommodation may be difficult to reserve during this week.
  • As we are aiming for attendees generally in the age group from 18 years of age and under, we welcome parents or chaperones to stay in the dormitories with their children for the same price for room and board as the participants.
International Attendees
  • Please note that all instruction will be in English. Non-English speaking participants will be welcome with a translator and will be able to use the translator while on ice, gym and fitness sessions. For classroom sessions, we will not be able to offer simultaneous translation services, this will need to occur after the fact.
  • Ensure that you have obtained appropriate health insurance prior to arrival.
  • You will be responsible for your own travel arrangements for travel to Edmonton. We will offer pick up and delivery to the Edmonton International Airport.
  • Additional opportunities for travel or sightseeing for teams may be offered if there is enough interest.
